2021 Toyota Mira Fuel-cell Electric Vehicle Revealed

Fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) offers the best of both gas-powered and electric vehicles with no worries of going extra miles and a very less carbon emission. Although it’s not that popular because the gas-powered is dominating the autos and now it seems EV will take over. Still, Toyota is beginning the new era of FCEV vehicles with its 2021 Toyota Mirai.

The Mirai was first introduced in 2014 and now it’s the second generation of Mirai that comes with a new sleeker design, better driving dynamics, and impressive range than its predecessors. Toyota also said that it will cheaper than the 2020 Mirai. Although, no figures are shared yet.

The new Mirai has adopted its GA-L platform the is the same rear-wheel-drive one which comes in Lexus LS and Lexus LC 500. It is 2.6 inches lower and 2.8 inches wider than the current Mirai and more space. Luxury and improved driving dynamics. The fuel-cell stack resides under the long hood and fuel-cell cylinders are under the cabin and below the trunk thus, giving more room to the vehicle.

 

The new smaller fuel-cell produces 128 kW compared to the current 114 kW and the single motor produces 180 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Toyota claims that it can go to 62 mph from 0 in 9.2 seconds. The best news is its EPA estimated is increased to 404 miles from 312 miles. Toyota said that the weight is distributed 50/50 to give it a sporty feel.

 Mostly the hydrogen refueling stations are in California, and New England limiting the area for Toyota Mirai. The 2020 model was only sold in California and Hawaii. Toyota is hoping that the lower-rated will increase its sales globally let’s see what will happen.
